The scar from this surgery is barely visible, as it is located behind the ear, in the groove formed between the ear and the skull. Furthermore, since this is an area with very thin skin, the scar itself tends to become imperceptible, even with some techniques that use small incisions on the anterior surface.
Certain patients may have a tendency to form unsightly scars (hypertrophic and keloid scars). This should be discussed during the initial consultation, along with any family history. People with fair skin tend to develop this type of scar less frequently.

However, hypertrophic or keloid scars should not be confused with the natural healing process during the intermediate healing period. Children: usually general anesthesia.
Adults: usually local anesthesia with or without sedation.

The ear is protected (especially in children) in the first few days with a type of cap to prevent local trauma. In some cases, headbands like “ballet” or “tennis” styles are recommended for the first 2 weeks, or even a wrap-style dressing with crepe bandage.

As soon as the dressing is removed, we will already see about 80% of the desired result. After 12 weeks, the result will be final.

The result is generally permanent, but as with everything in medicine, no result can be guaranteed.
